A Presence That Stays With Us
Just like perfume, some people leave a lasting impression on us. Their presence stays with us, shaping who we are in ways we do not always realize at the time.
Friendship, scent, and the influence of a great teacher all share this invisible power. They become part of our story, even long after a moment is over.
For me, one of those unforgettable people was my high school teacher, who meant so much to both Leyla and me.
A Classroom That Felt Like Home
Her classroom was never just a place to learn. It felt like a second home. Every time we walked in, we were met with warmth, encouragement, and the kind of energy that made you feel like you truly mattered. It did not matter what kind of day I was having. I always knew I could walk through that door and be welcomed with open arms.
And she always had a joke ready.
Every time I peeked through the door to say hello, she would smile and say, “Your sister is not here,” knowing perfectly well that I was there to check in on Leyla or simply to feel a little closer to her. It was the kind of teasing that made you feel like family. It made you feel seen.
The Artist Behind the Inspiration
What made her even more special was her art.
She is not only an art teacher, she is also a talented artist with her own studio. She is one of the most gifted artists I have ever met. Even today, I still visit her Instagram when I need a moment of beauty or inspiration. Her drawings are always full of life, movement, and color, and somehow they manage to feel both powerful and peaceful at the same time.
They feel magical.
The Moon and the Sun
When I began thinking about how to honor Leyla, I knew I wanted something that captured our friendship in a way words could never fully express. I turned to someone whose creativity had already shaped so much of our world.
I asked her to create something deeply personal. I asked her to draw Leyla and me as the moon and the sun.
Those symbols have always meant something to us. In many ways we were opposites who completed each other, yet deep down we were also incredibly alike.
The sun represents energy, warmth, and light.
The moon represents depth, mystery, and emotion.
One rises as the other sets, always connected, always part of the same rhythm.
That is how our friendship felt.
This drawing is not simply a piece of art. It is a memory. It is a tribute to our friendship and a reminder of the teacher who helped shape so much of our world.
Lessons That Leave an Imprint
In a way, teachers are a little like perfumers. They take different ideas, experiences, and lessons and blend them together, creating something meaningful that stays with you forever. Just like a signature scent can bring back a memory in an instant, the influence of a great teacher never truly fades.
I will always carry these memories close to my heart. The laughter, the lessons, and the feeling of belonging in that classroom remain with me.
Some imprints last forever.
I will always be grateful for the teacher whose kindness and creativity left their own lasting imprint on our story.
The Heart of Luminaryan
At Luminaryan, we believe deeply in the power of scent, memory, and connection. Just like the people who shape us, perfume tells a story. A story that continues to live long after a moment has passed.
Luminaryan was born from a friendship that left a lasting imprint, just like scent. Inspired by Leyla and the memories we carry, we are creating something that lingers, just as true friendships do.
Questions & Reflections
Why do certain teachers leave such a lasting impression on us?
Great teachers do more than share knowledge. They create environments where students feel seen, encouraged, and inspired. Those moments of support and creativity often stay with us long after the classroom years are over.
Why are memories so strongly connected to scent?
Our sense of smell is closely tied to the parts of the brain that process memory and emotion. Because of this connection, a scent can instantly bring back a moment, a place, or a person we love. Just like memories of meaningful teachers, certain scents stay with us for a lifetime.
Can art help preserve memories of people we love?
Art has a unique way of capturing emotions and moments that words sometimes cannot express. A painting, drawing, or photograph can hold meaning and memories, allowing us to revisit them again and again.
How can a teacher influence creativity?
Teachers often play a powerful role in encouraging curiosity and imagination. By nurturing creativity and confidence, they help students discover their voice and their ability to see beauty in the world around them.
Why does Luminaryan connect scent with memory and storytelling?
At Luminaryan, fragrance is more than something we wear. It is a way of preserving memories, emotions, and connections. Just like meaningful people in our lives leave an imprint on our hearts, a scent can carry a story that lasts far beyond a single moment.
